5 Reasons to Try Harder

Try Try Try

Or Start Trying Hard, Or Keep Trying Hard, Or Start Trying Period

I wrote this for me. I tried harder today, but I really really wanted to quit half way through the day. I’m not use to being busy… and I’m sleepy and cranky from a new diet….. but I’m not done. And, I planned carefully. There’s no reason I can’t pull off everything I planned to do today today. So I needed a little reminder to keep trying, and to try harder.

  1. You’re probably stronger than you think you are.

Our minds and bodies are naturally resistant to change (It’s some weird survival thing)… which means anything that’s unfamiliar; your thoughts and feelings will most likely fight you on to some extent. When you get started…. those sneaky lies tend to get a lot quieter. There’s a solid chance you’ll realize you are much more capable of doing the harder thing than you believed you were.

  2. Despite all the various beliefs out there, the afterlife is basically an unknown, this could potentially be it.

And for all you know this ‘this’ could end tomorrow. Spontaneous deaths happen all of the time. You have to make the most of the time your given, whether that’s another hour, 50 years, or a potential eternity…. because you don’t know until you know, and by then it could be too late and you’ll be left with nothing but ‘what

    ifs’.

  3. “Faith without action is dead”

Straight from an atheist view to a Bible quote, but seriously. The best intentions are moot if you never act on them. If you love people with your every thought and feeling, and I mean all people, strangers, babies, elderly, criminals, but you never lift a finger to help someone in need; Are you a good person?

If you believe you’ll be healthy some day, but you lay around and eat junk food all day…… do you really believe it? Obviously it won’t happen like that. I’m not sure if your belief there is dead, or simply a lie.

If you believe you’ll be rich one day, but you have no career aspirations or business ideas, and you’re not sucking up to a wealthy aunt, or playing the lottery (don’t do this)……. Even if there is some supernatural force that wants to back your belief… how could it when it has no avenue to?

  4. Every easy thing was hard at one point.

Have you ever watched a baby try to eat, or a toddler try to walk, or a preschooler try to read? It’s definitely not easy for them. But as adults we do those things constantly without thought or any tangible effort.

Maybe that hard thing you can’t talk yourself into doing will be just like that some day. As easy as walking, talking, breathing. It’s only hard because it’s new. Even if you know how to do it in your head, your body doesn’t know how to do it yet. So do it, do your best, and get better… and maybe hard will be easy one day.

  5. Success may be closer than you think.

You’ll never know if that last bit of effort that you couldn’t or wouldn’t muster is what would have gotten you there. You never know if a little luck might mix with your efforts tomorrow and bring success earlier than you predicted. You never know exactly which action it is that finally gets you tangible results until after the fact. It could be whatever you do next, if you just try a little harder.

Obviously, there are situations this doesn’t apply to. Sometimes we need rest, and some people sometimes push themselves too hard. Odds are, if you’re reading this though those exceptions don’t apply to you. If you’re looking for reasons to try harder, you probably have it in you to try harder. So do it. It just might be worth it.
