Tips to Pull Your Focus Back in Line

For when your emotions start to flatten your will power, and it starts getting harder and harder to keep your mind where you need it.

Do a brain dump.

Write down everything that comes into your mind. It will help you work out your emotions so that they’re intensity is diminished. As you write, once you start to empty all those emotional thoughts steer your thoughts and writing towards where you need it….. talk yourself into thinking about thing things you want or need to be thinking about once again. You can pretty easily go from none of your thoughts being where you want, to having scattered thoughts, some where you want, to having all or most of your thoughts where you want.

Meditate.

The best way to master anything is to practice it, over and over. This is true with thinking patterns too. When you practice focusing your thoughts on your breathing, you’ll find it easier, with time, to focus on other things you need to.

Listen to some motivating music.

I think there’s something a little magical about music. The right song can shift your thoughts, and even your mood almost instantly. Let the music drown out your thoughts for a bit, and inspire you back into the right direction.

Read or watch something in line with where your mind needs to be.

This one almost feels like a cheat. If you want to be thinking about certain things, and you just can’t get your mind to go there, listen to someone else talk about the things you want to be thinking about. Even if they aren’t saying exactly what you need to be thinking, they’ll say something that get you thinking in that direction again, and eventually your mind can trail off of whatever they’re saying back into the areas you need.

Move your body.

For the more physiological brain fog cases….. Get oxygen flowing. When you’re feeling a bit brain dead, sometimes all it takes to wake your mind back up is to walk around for a few minutes. So, take a short walk, stretch, drink a glass of water, an you just might be ready to go again.
